Onboarding process

This page explains what happens between signing up for Busroot and your first day of live data: what we need from you, what you prepare before the install day, and what happens on the day.

Before the install day

1. Confirm the delivery address

Confirm the address we should send your hardware to. We pre-configure every device before it ships, so the work on site is physical: mounting, power and wiring.

2. Choose how devices connect

Devices connect to Busroot in one of two ways. See Shop floor network for the requirements of each.

  • Your site's Wi-Fi. Send us the network name (SSID) and password so that we can pre-configure the devices. Ask your IT team whether devices need to be whitelisted or firewall rules changed. We can supply MAC addresses if you need them.
  • A dedicated wireless network with 4G gateway routers. We supply the routers pre-configured. Nothing connects to your site's network, so there is nothing for your IT team to set up.

3. Meet your customer success team

We introduce you to your customer success contact, who arranges a short introductory call to answer your questions.

4. Complete the Work Order Form

The Work Order Form is how you tell us what is being installed, so that we can connect each signal to the right station and settings in your Busroot account. Ask the Busroot team for a copy.

For each machine or process, it records:

  • which machine or process you want to monitor
  • the signals you want to track, for example productive status, production count or line speed
  • the power supply available, for example whether 24 V DC is available in the cabinet

If you are not sure about a machine, photograph its cabinet and controls, check that there is space and power in the cabinet, and collect or photograph the relevant schematics. We use these to agree the sensing points with you.

If the devices will use your site's Wi-Fi, also check the Wi-Fi frequency and the signal strength next to each machine. The requirements are on Shop floor network.

5. Prepare the site

Use the Installation guide to plan the work with your maintenance team or electrician. Before the day:

  • Confirm that power is available at every device location.
  • Agree the sensing point for each machine with us.
  • Complete the machine list on the Work Order Form, with the signal source for each machine.
  • Decide who does the installation. If you want Busroot or a partner to install the hardware, arrange this with us.

On the install day

  1. Gateway routers first (dedicated wireless network only). Plug in and position the routers, so that the other devices connect as soon as they have power.
  2. Machine connectors. Fit the connectors and sensors machine by machine, with each machine isolated. Photograph the wiring and send the photos to us before you apply power.
  3. Power up and check. When we confirm the wiring, power each connector. We confirm from our side that it is connected and that its signals arrive, then ask you to run the machine so that we can see a production count.
  4. Operator screens. Mount the screens and connect them to power. Each screen shows its station within a minute or two.
  5. Handover. Send us the final list of machines, device IDs and input allocations, and the wiring photos, so that we can complete the configuration of your Busroot account.

We can be on a call during the install day to check wiring photos and confirm connections as you go.

What we need from you

  • A photo of the wiring inside each cabinet, showing the device and the terminal labels.
  • For each machine: the machine name, the device ID printed on the front of the device, and the input each signal is wired to.
  • The device locations that are powered from the machine's isolated supply, not from a permanent supply.
  • Any station or machine where the wireless signal seems weak, so that we can add coverage.

Log in to Busroot

When your account is ready, you and your team log in with your work email addresses. See Getting started for how to log in and the first settings to configure.

If you have a question at any point, see Support.

FAQs

What is the Work Order Form?

The Work Order Form is a spreadsheet that you complete before and during installation. It tells us which machines are being monitored, which signals each one provides and which device input each signal is wired to, so that we can connect the signals to the right settings in your Busroot account. Ask the Busroot team for a copy. We are happy to go through it with you on a call.

If you change the installation later, for example you fit a new sensor or change the Wi-Fi network, update the Work Order Form and send it to us. We make the changes in your account and confirm that the signals arrive.
